This ancient Indian practice has now become mainstream in the West. Some of the many proven benefits of yoga include: improvement in posture and breathing, increased tone, strength and flexibility, a greater ability to cope with stress and a feeling of calm.

One way of starting to practice yoga is to attend a beginners course – we’ve been running sold out yoga beginners courses since we opened in Tufnell Park in 2014, mostly on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Beginners courses will give you an introduction to fundamental yoga poses (asanas), concentrating on healthy alignment and establishing a deeper awareness of your breathing. Instruction in meditation and relaxation techniques will also be given. These courses create a strong and safe foundation from which you can then investigate different yoga styles  at Down to Earth.

You can also choose to attend our drop in classes – we recommend starting with Open Level or L1 classes.

Please wear comfortable clothes for your classes. You don’t need to bring anything as we provide mats and props though you’re of course welcome to bring your own mat.
